JACOB PERLOW HOSPICE INPATIENT UNIT

Jacob Perlow Hospice Inpatient Unit (IPU) provides acute care for our patients who are experiencing distressing symptoms that cannot be managed at home or in a nursing home. Inpatient care is appropriate when:

  • The patient's symptoms necessitate 24-hour care
  • Death is approaching and care in the home is not possible
  • Temporary respite care is required for hospice families experiencing extreme caregiver burden, stress or fatigue

The goal of our IPU is to relieve acute symptoms, so that the patient may return to his or her home or nursing home.

Jacob Perlow Hospice IPU is staffed around the clock with specially trained nurses, and patients receive daily or more frequent visits from our hospice physicians. To maintain continuity of care, the patient's Interdisciplinary Hospice Team continues to visit, as well, including the social worker, chaplains and volunteers.

Our inpatient unit has a warm, homelike atmosphere, creating a small community of patients, families, friends and staff. There are accommodations for a loved one to spend the night, and pets are welcome, too, as they are often “family.”

Jacob Perlow Hospice Inpatient Unit is located at:

Beth Israel Medical Center
Leo and Rachel Sussman Hospice Wing
First Avenue at 16th Street
New York , NY 10003

Continuum Hospice Care also provides quality hospice care at Long Island College Hospital Hospice, Harlem Community Hospice & Hospital Swing Bed Suite, as well as The Mollie and Jack Zicklin Jewish Hospice Residence and The Betty and Morton Yarmon Manhattan Hospice Residence.
